Finally, at one point the protagonist expresses an ambivalent attitude toward God. However, these elements are spoiled by brief excessive nudity, some foul language, and references to homosexuality and drug use. PAIN AND GLORY has some positive references to God, religion, prayer, and forgiveness. That said, the movie’s flow is sometimes confusing and leaves many moments up to the viewer to understand. One montage displays carefully constructed imagery. PAIN AND GLORY is cinematically captivating. The movie moves back and forth between Salvador’s past and present to give viewers a glimpse into what might really be the cause of his pain. A series of voiceovers reveals that Salvador’s medical ailments have harmed his ability to make movies.
